About this deal

All that's really changed is the positioning of a deadly electric whisk and the removal of one of the trickier short cuts. They provided the characters with some extra cosmetics and attempted to inject some longevity to this bare bones game. There's an argument to be made that magic of Micro Machines lies in its multiplayer, sure, but the lack of an offline Championship mode to noodle about in leaves it all feeling rather empty.

The classic mode of driving far enough ahead to get your opponents off the screen is here, now given that classic racing game mode title of Elimination.

The Xbox live experience was not something I will be raving about here, the connections are sketchy at best and it always felt like playing games under the old 56k modem, in that the excitement could increase due to the distinct possibility that you would be disconnected at any second. Meanwhile, Team Play lets you work together using your vehicles' unique skills with modes such as 'King of the Hill' or 'Capture the Flag'! They also complain about there being no local multiplayer race option and that the single player mode is a massive let down.

They slip and slide all over the track, no matter what vehicle you've chosen and as a newcomer it's very easy to over or under steer and end up careening over the edge of a table or getting lodged in a pile of pretzels. out of 10: "This could get fixed into a solid game, but players should be cautious until an overhaul occurs". These arena matches do have their moments of brilliance, especially when each team member is playing to the strength of their vehicles - ambulances are healers, etc - but they feel out of place in a Micro Machines game so it's sad to see Battle mode getting top billing. In older versions of Micro Machines, I remember one or two of the tracks being slightly confusing at times but not every one of them. Again in fairness, we had fun playing the game for an hour or so, but sadly I have no inclination to play it again.

Absolutely love Micro Machines, I used to collect the toys as a kid in the early 90's and I still remember playing Tournament mode on Micro Machines 96 Turbo Track Editor Edition on Sega Mega Drive with like 8 friends! Micro Machines World Series will support up to 12 players online and four players on the same screen across a variety of racing and battling environments. I may have gone in too hot headed when starting this article; it wasn’t a terrible game, it was just bang average and a massive disappointment to the legacy of the franchise.

Fast forward to 2017 and I now have two teenagers in the house, who weren't even born when I was playing this back in the 90's! Micro Machines World Series received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic, partially due to its lack of career mode and spotty online multiplayer. We would always play the Tournament mode, which allowed us to play through the tracks and the winner at the end would always have the bragging rights. That said, some complain about the controls, saying the cars are too sensitive and the controls are basic. Designed around fun gameplay at every turn, Micro Machines World Series is the ultimate pick up and play experience for players of all ages and abilities, offering intuitive, easy to learn controls that make the controller impossible to put down.
